Yes
indeedy, it
did. And I've
got the gold
stickers and
a wonderful
plaque to
prove it wasn't
a dream.
Awards
in ten categories
were announced
and presented
last Wednesday
evening, October
17. You can
find all the
winners listed
here.
It
was an amazing
evening, and
I'm just glad
that I had
the presence
of mind to
thank my family,
the folks
of Leadville,
and my publisher
Poisoned Pen
Press.

I've
just returned
from a great
Bouchercon
in Anchorage,
Alaska, and
a trip to
Nome courtesy
of the Alaska
Sisters in
Crime's "Authors
in the Schools"
program. Nome
is an amazing,
awesome place—a
landscape
that goes
on and on
and people
who are kind
and generous.
You can check
out the Nome
webcam
here and learn
a bit about
the city and
the area here.
And
more news!
Iron Ties
is a finalist
for the Colorado
Book Award,
popular fiction
category,
along with
The Nymphos
of Rocky Flats
by Mario
Acevedo
and Forbidden
Cargo by Rebecca
K. Rowe.
The winners
of the various
categories
will be announced
on October
17.

Well,
here I sit,
bright red
cast on the
right ankle,
recovering
from a mis-step
off a curb
in Leadville
about three
weeks ago
while jaunting
about Colorado.
I take my
hat off to
all the friendly
folks of Leadville
(and in the
emergency
room of St.
Vincent's
hospital)
for all their
help and expertise
in getting
me splinted
up and back
off the mountain
and eventually
home. It's
not a bad
fracture,
as such things
go, but will
take a while
to heal, and
means I will
be sticking
close to home
base for a
while.
Now, a bit
of good news
for those
in the UK:
Poisoned Pen
Press (my
publisher)
has a UK "arm"
run by the
amazing Jen
Muller, and
the UK website
is now up.
It's still
under construction,
but the basics
are here with
more to come:
http://www.poisonedpenpressuk.com.
Silver Lies
is available
now in the
UK, and a
UK edition
of Iron Ties
will be out
in the fall.
July

I
just found
out that
Iron Ties
is one of
four Poisoned
Pen Press
books that
are semifinalists
for the Quills
Literary Awards.
The Quills
Awards were
created to
bring glamour
to the book
publishing
world, and,
more importantly,
to involve
readers in
the awards
process.
The
four Poisoned
Pen Press
semifinalists
are:
• Iron
Ties
by Ann Parker
• Impulse
by Frederick
Ramsay
• Sorrow
Without End
by Priscilla
Royal
• Drive
by James Sallis
Semifinalists
were chosen
from a list
of 2,500 titles
that were
either Publishers
Weekly
best sellers
or received
starred reviews
or were bestseller
and "pick"
lists from
Borders, Barnes
& Noble
and ABA's
Book Sense.
Over
the next six
weeks, the
Nominating
Board of booksellers
and librarians
will vote
on titles
within the
defined set
of book categories.
Five books
per category
will be selected
for final
voting by
the consumer
at www.quillsvote.com.

More
good news!
IRON TIES
received a
*starred*
review from
Publishers
Weekly
(April 24).
I
recently received
boxes of books
to sign from
my publisher,
and got to
hold the real
McCoy in my
hands. Pretty
darn exciting;
Work is continuing
apace on updating
the website
for June.
I'm booking
events for
the summer
months, so
keep an eye
on the "Appearances"
page for my
travels around
California,
Colorado,
and beyond.
March
2006

Look for an
author essay
by Ann in
the current
Art in Mysteries
issue of
Mystery Readers
Journal
http://www.mysteryreaders.org/Issues/Art1.html
. Titled "Saturday

at the Bar,"
the essay
delves into
the mysterious
origins of
the Paradise
Lost
mural on the
back wall
of the Silver
Queen Saloon
and hints
at other art
treasures
to be found
in the under-construction-but-nearly-completed
sequel to
Silver
